I finally pulled the trigger on the S5II and now I am honestly panicking a bit because I have a big trip to Japan coming up in like three weeks and I still havent settled on a main lens. I really want just one do everything zoom so I dont have to mess around with lens swaps in the rain or crowded trains. Right now I am completely torn between the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 Art and the Panasonic 24-105mm f/4.
Heres what I am looking at:
- Budget is strictly under $1,200 (hoping for a good used deal)
- Needs to handle both street photography and some handheld video for my vlog
- Weight is a concern because I will be walking like 20k steps a day
The Sigma seems like the pro choice but man it looks heavy and I dont know if I need f/2.8 that badly with how good the S5II sensor is at high ISO. But then the 24-105 has that extra reach which would be amazing for detail shots... but is f/4 gonna be a total disaster for night shots in Osaka? I keep going back and forth and I am gonna lose my mind if I dont order something soon. Which one is the better all-rounder for a one-lens setup?
In my experience, you should grab the Panasonic Lumix S 24-105mm f/4 Macro OIS. Having tried many zooms, that extra reach is way more useful for Japan than a slightly faster aperture.
- Dual IS works wonders for handheld vlogs
- Way lighter for all that walking
- f/4 is totally fine with the S5II high ISO The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art is a killer lens but honestly its too heavy for travel. Your back will thank you.
