Which L-mount prime lens is actually the best for high-end professional portraits because I am honestly losing my mind looking at the options right now. I have a huge wedding contract in Seattle coming up next month and I need to finalize my kit but I keep going in circles. I spent hours reading about the Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN Art since everyone says it is the gold standard for sharpness but then I saw a bunch of guys on another forum complaining that the autofocus pulse is really annoying on the newer Lumix bodies like my S5IIX and now I am scared to pull the trigger. My budget is around $1,600 and I was looking at the Panasonic 85mm f1.8 too because it is native but is the bokeh actually going to look professional enough? I am worried it will look too clinical or cheap compared to a faster lens. I even looked at the Leica stuff but there is no way I am spending five grand on a 90mm lens right now even if it is the best glass on earth. I just need something that has that creamy background and fast enough AF that I wont miss the kiss during the ceremony. Is the Sigma really that bad for AF or should I just stick to native Lumix glass even if it is slower? This is driving me crazy...
Honestly, you should just grab the Panasonic Lumix S 85mm f1.8. I used it for my sisters backyard wedding last summer and the photos were amazing! The focus was so snappy on my S5II and I never missed a single shot. Pro tip: dont overthink the bokeh, at f1.8 its plenty creamy and it saved me a ton of cash!
