So Ive been shooting with the SL2 for about a year now and mostly sticking to my old M lenses with the adapter because I love that look but I just landed this huge commercial gig here in Berlin for a high-end fashion label and they want these massive prints like billboard size almost. I usually dont care that much about clinical sharpness but for this specific job I need something that can actually resolve all 47 megapixels without breaking a sweat and my current 50mm Summilux-M just isnt cutting it at the edges when I'm wide open. I mean it looks great for street stuff but for this it feels a bit soft.
I've been looking at the APO-Summicrons and everyone says they are the gold standard for the L-mount but there are so many options now with Sigma and even the Panasonic S Pro stuff. My budget is around 5k so I can afford the Leica glass if it’s actually worth the jump in performance over something like the Sigma Art series which I know is bulky but usually pretty sharp. I need to make a decision by the end of the month before we start prep for the studio shoot. Just curious if anyone has done side-by-side tests specifically on the SL2 sensor because I've heard the microlenses can be picky with certain designs. Which prime is actually the king of sharpness for this body?
Unfortunately, my experience with the standard high-end prime for these studio shoots was a total letdown. I had major issues with edge-to-edge clarity on the one I bought first, and it just didnt resolve the sensor properly.
- Corners were way too soft wide open
- Contrast dropped off at the edges
- Fringing was a nightmare The one I use now is definitely the king of sharpness, but that first one was honestly not as good as expected.
