I am honestly so sick of carrying three primes for my S5II and missing shots because im fumbling with lens caps in the rain. I just need one lens that stays on the body for my trip to Tokyo next month.
Torn between the Lumix 24-105mm f4 and the Sigma 24-70mm Art. Im leaning toward the Panasonic for the extra reach and OIS but im worried that f4 will be useless once the sun goes down. The Sigma is f2.8 but so heavy to lug around all day. My budget is capped at $900 so im looking at used. Which one is the better all-arounder for someone who hates switching gear...
Honestly, for a trip like Tokyo, you want reliability over specs. I remember lugging a heavy kit through Shinjuku years ago and my back was screaming by day three. In my experience, the Panasonic Lumix S 24-105mm f/4 Macro O.I.S. is the better bet for what you need. Ive used it in some nasty drizzle and the weather sealing never let me down. People obsess over f2.8 but with the S5II sensor, you can just bump the ISO a bit and youre golden. Plus, that Dual IS is like magic for steady handheld shots when youre tired. The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art L-Mount is a beast, but its a total brick to carry all day. Ive seen some older used copies have issues with dust getting behind the front element too, which is just a headache you dont need. You can find the 24-105 used for like 600 or 700 bucks easily right now. Save the extra cash for your actual trip... basically getting a pro lens and dinner money.
