flying to Italy in two weeks and panicking about my a7iv setup. I hate swapping gear so I need one do-it-all lens.
stuck between the Tamron 28-75 G2 and the Sigma 24-70 Art. the Sigma is heavy but 24mm is tempting, while the Tamron fits my $900 budget better. which one is less of a headache for travel?
To add to the point above: I found the chromatic aberration on the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art a bit disappointing at 70mm, tbh.
- Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2: solid value but the bokeh is kinda nervous.
- Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS: unfortunately slower at f/4 but has better corner sharpness. For $900 the Tamron is your best bet. Youll still get great shots!
I'd suggest you opt for the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2. You might want to consider the physical weight since walking through Italy is taxing. Make sure to prioritize comfort over the extra 4mm of width. Be careful with the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art as it's significantly heavier. The Tamron is a safer choice, honestly.
> the Sigma is heavy but 24mm is tempting Saw this earlier but just getting back. Honestly, I was super satisfied with the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2. The VXD motor is technically faster and weight matters for travel. If you want even lighter, the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary is a solid alternative. I took it to Rome and had no complaints... the 470g weight works well for all day walking and it fits your budget.
