I’ve got a mix of Sony E-mount bodies (an APS-C a6xxx and a full-frame A7 series) and I’m trying to buy one “go-to” lens that’ll work well across most of them without constant compromises. I shoot mostly travel and everyday stuff—street scenes, family photos, and the occasional indoor low-light shot—so I’d love something sharp, reliable, and not ridiculously huge. Budget is roughly $800–$1,200, and I’m fine with a zoom if it’s genuinely versatile. What lens do you think works best across most Sony E-mount cameras, and why?
100% agree
I have been thinking about this for a bit because i am literally in the exact same boat right now. Been dealing with this for like six months and honestly still havent found a lens that doesnt feel like a huge compromise on one of the bodies. It is so frustrating trying to find that one perfect piece of glass that fits both sensors without breaking the bank.
- i totally agree with the others that those f/4 zooms are the usual go-to picks but they still feel so bulky on my a6000 series
- make sure to be careful with the weight balance because spending a grand on a versatile lens that you hate carrying is just a waste of cash
- you might want to consider how the crop factor totally changes the usability... im still struggling to justify the price when nothing feels quite right Seriously havent been able to pull the trigger on anything yet because the perfect cross-platform lens basically doesnt exist for a decent price... it is a total headache. I am down to help you compare specs if you find any other potential lenses tho!
ok so ive bounced between a6xxx + A7 for years—my pick is Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS: sharp, travel-perfect, OSS helps indoors. Also: Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G smaller/wider; Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary faster but no OSS—be careful tho, right?
