So I finally pre-ordered the R5 Mark II and now im staring at my lens options and honestly im kinda torn. I was looking at the 24-70mm 2.8 because obviously its the gold standard but then I saw some reviews saying the 24-105mm f4 is actually plenty sharp for that high res sensor and way lighter for hiking. Im heading to Iceland in October and my budget is strictly under 2.5k for the glass so i cant really do both. My logic was that the 2.8 is better for low light but does the extra reach of the 105 make more sense for landscapes? I just dont want to waste the resolution of this body on a lens that cant keep up...
Look, if youre dropping that much on the R5II, dont compromise. In my experience with high-res sensors, the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM is the only zoom that truly keeps up with those 45 megapixels. Youll definitely miss that f/2.8 in the low light of Icelands moody weather. Ive tried many zooms and honestly, the corner sharpness on the 2.8 beats the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM easily.
