I just got a Fuji X-S10 and honestly I'm totally lost with all the lens options out there. This is my first proper camera after just using my phone for years so sorry if these are really basic questions. I'm going to Italy next month for ten days and I really don't want to be carrying around a big bag of gear or switching pieces out while I'm walking around Rome. I just want one lens that can do a bit of everything like taking pictures of buildings but also zooming in on details far away. My budget is around 600 or maybe 700 bucks if it's really worth it. I keep seeing people talk about kit lenses vs constant aperture and I have no clue what that actually means for my photos lol.
Here is what I am looking for:
- needs to be light enough to carry all day
- good for both wide street shots and zooming in
- under 800 dollars if possible
- not too complicated to use
I saw the 18-55mm and the 18-135mm online but I dont know which one is better for a beginner who just wants nice vacation shots. Or maybe there is a third option? I'm kinda nervous about picking the wrong one and ruining my trip photos so let me know what you guys think...
I went through this same stress before my last big trip. Honestly, I found that sticking to one versatile zoom is way safer than carrying extra gear. My current setup works well because:
- I never risked getting dust on my sensor while swapping lenses in the wind.
- It handled tight streets and far-off towers without me missing any shots.
- I felt much more relaxed knowing I had everything covered in one piece.
