Recommended prime lens for street photography on Leica SL2 cameras?

Ive been lugging the 24-90 on my SL2 for ages but my wrist is killing me after a long day in Chicago. I need a fast prime for street stuff that isnt a total brick.

budget under 3k

35mm preferred

snappy AF

Should I grab the Summicron or is the Sigma I-series better for weight?

The rendering is quite different and the character is a bit more clinical. Since you're wandering around Chicago, you might want to consider the weather sealing differences too... some of these smaller primes aren't as robust as your current zoom. I've spent a lot of time with the Leica Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH. and while the optics are world-class, it’s still pretty hefty for a prime. If weight is the absolute priority, make sure to look at the Panasonic Lumix S 35mm f/1.8. It’s basically featherweight compared to your zoom, and the AF motor is linear, so it’s nearly instant for street work. The Sigma I-series is beautiful, but be careful with those magnetic lens caps when you're moving fast through crowds, they're easy to knock off. Definitely check out the L-mount lens database over at l-mount.com or search for "The Overgaard SL2 guide" for specific AF tracking comparisons. Some lenses hunt more than others in low light Chicago alleys. Stay away from the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art too—it’s tempting for the extra stop of light, but it’s another brick that’ll put you right back where you started with the wrist pain. Go with the Sigma 35mm f2 DG DN Contemporary! The weight savings are massive for street work, and the autofocus is fantastic for the price point. You wont regret it!
