Amazon announced plans last week for a “Prime Day” of discounts on Wednesday July 15, 2015, and now Walmart is jumping into the fray! So, let’s see who’s cheaper: Amazon or Walmart?
Fernando Madeira, CEO of Walmart.com, said that Walmart will be launching its own July 15 sales online that will offer “thousands of great deals” and “special atomic deals.” These sales are set to continue for 90 days, much longer than Amazon Prime Day (only one day).
Amazon, however, is not going down without a fight. “We’ve heard some retailers are charging higher prices for items in their physical stores than they do for the same items online,” Greg Greeley, Amazon Prime global VP, said that having costlier in-store products “doesn’t add up,” and reinforces the idea that “you’re usually better off shopping online.”
Amazon is offering a 30-day free trial for those who want to take advantage of the expected huge sales on Prime Day.
